Regarding Troy

Abstract

“Troy” by Wolfgang Petersen (U.S.A. 2004), a very discussed movie, does not have to be considered as an act of violence towards Homer. In our opinion, it is a peculiar, sometimes provoking, reinterpretation of the Trojan myth, which is seen from an antimilitaristic and anti-imperialistic point of view. The Homeric text and, in general, the Greek epic tradition are sometimes forced, but the Homeric spirit is not completely betrayed. A comparison of the movie with the classical sources to which it is inspired shows that the screenplay is based on a documentation which is much more accurate than it could appear.
